DESCRIPTION:This day-long celebration of art and community returns to Peirce Mill this June!  \nJoin us for free workshops taught by local artists–or borrow some art supplies and find a quiet spot to draw in Rock Creek Park. Rain date: Sunday\, June 14. \nWORKSHOP SCHEDULE  \nPlease click here to register for a free workshop taught by a local artist in Rock Creek Park! \n  \nNature Printmaking\nTeaching Artist: Clare Winslow\n10:30am to 12:00pm\n12:30 to 2:00pm\n \nCreate one-of-a-kind nature prints using plants\, textures\, household items and acrylic paint. Each person will take home a beautiful set of prints to frame or gift. \n  \nPinhole Photography\nTeaching Artists: Mt. Plantry\n10:30am to 12:00pm\n12:30 to 2:00pm\n \nFollow in the footsteps of an early Washington photographer\, Titian Ramsay Peale\, who captured Rock Creek Park in the 19th century. We’ll shoot pinhole photographs of the mill and develop the film with a sustainable process using instant coffee. Then\, we’ll turn the negatives into salt prints using the same methods used by Peale over 150 years ago! \n  \nTapestry Weaving\nTeaching Artist: Hillary Steel\n12:30 to 2:00pm\n2:30 to 4:00pm \nWorking on simple looms\, students will learn the basic principles of tapestry weaving and experiment with color and shape to create abstract or pictorial weavings that reference our natural world. \n  \nClay by the Creek\nTeaching Artist: Cristina Sandoval\n12:30 to 2:00pm\n2:30 to 4:00pm\n \nIn this ceramics workshop\, we’ll find inspiration in Rock Creek Park\, and in the textures of bark\, rocks\, and leaves. Participants will take home a sculpture or vessel made from air-dry terra cotta. \n  \nPhotographic Portraits in Nature\nTeaching Artist: Fran Scott\n2:30 to 4:00pm\n \nTake a stroll with a DC-based photographer Fran Scott and learn the secrets of making compelling photographic portraits in the natural world. Please bring comfortable walking shoes and a smart phone with a camera. \n  \n  \n  \n\nFree public programs at Peirce Mill are supported  in part by\nthe DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities\,\nwhich receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

DESCRIPTION:For almost 200 years\, Peirce Mill has been using the power of water to grind corn into cornmeal. At this family-friendly event\, we’ll experiment with water toys\, learn about Archimedean screws\, and construct a paper-plate waterwheel. DC Water will provide plenty of fresh\, cold drinking water and a misting tent. And the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin will bring creek critters–also know as macroinvertebrates–to identify. \nEnjoy free summer fun for all ages in Rock Creek Park! \nRain Date: Sunday\, July 19
