Peirce Mill’s machinery, drawn by miller Ted Hazen

FOPM members are invited to
Peirce Mill for a celebration
of our 25th Anniversary!

Twenty five years ago, a mill volunteer named Richard Abbott founded the Friends of Peirce Mill. Abbott was at the mill when the main shaft broke a few years earlier, and was determined to repair the wooden machinery. He began the Friends of Peirce Mill in 1997, and since then we’ve worked alongside the National Park Service in Rock Creek Park to restore and interpret the last working gristmill in Washington, DC.

Together, we restored corn grinding operations at Peirce Mill in 2011. But there’s still much more to do. The Friends continue working with the National Park Service to preserve an old stone building that has stood beside Rock Creek for almost two centuries, and to uncover new stories about Peirce Mill’s long history.

FOPM members: Please join us on
Wednesday, November 9
from 5:00 to 7:00pm
for seasonal comestibles, cider, and other libations.

Featuring fruit brandies from
Sang Froid Distilling in Hyattsville, Maryland
