Carving a Landscape in Clay           Teaching Artist: Bethany Lee

10:00 to 11:30am
12:00 to 1:30pm

Using photographs of Rock Creek Park as inspiration, participants will sketch on clay slabs and then carve out their landscapes, creating the illusion of space and depth.

Animation Unplugged          Teaching Artist:  Denaise Seals

10:00 to 11:30am
2:00 to 3:30pm

Let’s animate Rock Creek Park! In this workshop, artists age 7 and up will create 24-page flip books, then watch their drawings magically come to life as the pages are flipped.

Drawing with Powdered Graphite      Teaching Artist: Erin Raedeke

10:00 to 11:30am
2:00 to 3:30pm

Powdered graphite creates unique, atmospheric effects–like a pencil but much more fluid! After a short demonstration, students will use this new medium to draw the Rock Creek landscape.

Nature Printing           Teaching Artist: Clare Winslow

12:00 to 1:30pm
2:00 to 3:30pm

Create one-of-a-kind nature prints using plants, textures, household items and acrylic paint. Each person will take home a beautiful set of prints to frame or gift.

Create by the Creek is organized by the Friends of Peirce Mill in partnership with the National Park Service and the Washington Studio School.

This project is supported by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
