Nature Printmaking
Teaching Artist: Clare Winslow
10:30am to 12:00pm
12:30 to 2:00pm

Create one-of-a-kind nature prints using plants, textures, household items and acrylic paint. Each person will take home a beautiful set of prints to frame or gift.

Pinhole Photography
Teaching Artists:
Mt. Plantry
10:30am to 12:00pm
12:30 to 2:00pm

Follow in the footsteps of an early Washington photographer, Titian Ramsay Peale, who captured Rock Creek Park in the 19th century. We’ll shoot pinhole photographs of the mill and develop the film with a sustainable process using instant coffee. Then, we’ll turn the negatives into salt prints using the same methods used by Peale over 150 years ago!

Tapestry Weaving
Teaching Artist:
Hillary Steel
12:30 to 2:00pm
2:30 to 4:00pm

Working on simple looms, students will learn the basic principles of tapestry weaving and experiment with color and shape to create abstract or pictorial weavings that reference our natural world.

Clay by the Creek
Teaching Artist: Cristina Sandoval
12:30 to 2:00pm
2:30 to 4:00pm

In this ceramics workshop, we’ll find inspiration in Rock Creek Park, and in the textures of bark, rocks, and leaves. Participants will take home a sculpture or vessel made from air-dry terra cotta.

Photographic Portraits in Nature
Teaching Artist: Fran Scott
2:30 to 4:00pm

Take a stroll with a DC-based photographer Fran Scott and learn the secrets of making compelling photographic portraits in the natural world. Please bring comfortable walking shoes and a smart phone with a camera.
